Banja Luka Airport announces runway and terminal expansion plans

Banja Luka Airport is planning a major infrastructure modernization to support future growth. According to acting director Valentina Kecman, the development plan includes the construction of a new 2,500-meter runway and a new terminal capable of handling up to 2.5 million passengers annually.

Despite these expansion plans, the airport saw a decrease in passenger traffic during the first eight months of the year, with over 289,000 passengers passing through—an approximately 11 percent decline compared to the previous record-breaking year. Kecman attributed this drop to a reduction in available seats and weekly flights offered by airlines during the summer season rather than a lack of interest.

Despite market challenges such as rising kerosene prices, the airport maintained all its existing destinations. Notably, the Banja Luka – Tivat route, which saw over 90 percent occupancy this season, will remain in the flight schedule for next summer with an increase from two to three weekly flights.
