Bosnia and Herzegovina advances major highway and tunnel projects
Major infrastructure developments are progressing across Bosnia and Herzegovina. A new roadway route has been selected to connect Čelinac with the Česma neighborhood in Banja Luka and a new bridge over the Vrbas river. While the project aims to alleviate traffic, JP “Putevi Republike Srpske” indicates that construction may take three to four years due to necessary administrative procedures, regulatory planning, and property-legal resolutions.
In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a new seven-kilometer section of the Corridor 5C highway, connecting Doboj Jug and Medakovo, has been opened to traffic. The €167 million project, executed by Euro-Asfalt, includes six bridges, the 220-meter Hrastik tunnel, and several interchanges. This section was financed through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and grants from the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
Additionally, a significant milestone was reached on the Corridor 5C in southern Bosnia, where the right tube of the 2,645-meter Kvanj tunnel has been breached. This part of the project, valued at over €125 million, is being implemented by an international consortium and is funded by the European Investment Bank and the European Union.
