Bank Indonesia drives Islamic economic growth in Eastern Indonesia through pesantren enterprises and FESyar KTI 2026

Bank Indonesia (BI) is strengthening the Islamic economy in Indonesia’s eastern region by supporting both religious schools and small businesses. In Lombok, NTB, the Salaf Modern Thohir Yasin pesantren has received BI assistance such as rice‑milling machines, a poultry‑slaughterhouse, and financial‑management training. The pesantren’s business unit now generates about 70 % of its operating costs and reports an annual turnover of roughly Rp 3 billion, employing around 150 local workers and providing aid to disadvantaged families.

BI also hosted the Festival Ekonomi Syariah Kawasan Timur Indonesia (FESyar KTI) 2026 in Mataram, NTB. The event gathered UMKM owners, regulators and other stakeholders to promote halal‑certified products and Islamic financing. BI set targets of Rp 11 billion in syariah financing and Rp 1.5 billion in UMKM turnover, emphasizing business matching, digital‑marketing training and certification programs such as AKBAR, AMANAH, BARAKAH and MAHAR. Participants from Papua, Sulawesi, Maluku and other eastern provinces reported improved market access and business skills.
