Perry Warjiyo Resigns as Bank Indonesia Governor, Destry Damayanti Named Interim FAST-MOVING

Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo submitted his resignation letter to President Prabowo Subianto on 26 July 2026. The resignation was accepted by the President and announced by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who said the decision was made for personal reasons and dismissed rumors of health issues or palace pressure. A presidential decree to formalise the dismissal will be issued in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law.

Deputy Governor Senior Destry Damayanti has been appointed acting Governor of Bank Indonesia under Article 48 of the Bank Indonesia Law, as amended in 2026. She will carry out the duties of the Governor until a permanent replacement is nominated and confirmed by the President and the House of Representatives. DPR Commission XI is awaiting the President’s nomination and will conduct a fit‑and‑proper test for the new governor. President Prabowo Subianto has not yet named a definitive successor.

The leadership change has prompted market commentary, with analysts noting possible short‑term volatility in the rupiah, the stock index and bond markets, while emphasizing that Indonesia’s monetary‑policy framework remains institutionalised.
