Bank Indonesia leadership: Prabowo proposes four new Governor candidates

President Prabowo Subianto has proposed four candidates to fill key positions within the Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia (BI). The nominees include Destry Damayanti for Governor, Aida S. Budiman for Senior Deputy Governor, and Solihin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori for Deputy Governor. The presidential letters regarding these appointments are expected to be processed following the opening of the parliamentary session on August 14, 2026. Destry Damayanti, currently serving as the acting Governor, is the sole nominee for the top position.

Bambang Brodjonegoro, CEO of the Asian Development Bank Institute, highlighted the significant challenges facing the incoming leadership. Key priorities include maintaining the stability of the rupiah and managing inflation, particularly given that Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves are currently estimated at approximately five and a half months of import needs. This limited reserve level restricts the central bank's options for market intervention. Additionally, the new leadership will be tasked with balancing monetary stability with the need to support national economic growth.
