BNI strengthens KUR governance amid Jember fraud investigation
Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) announced a series of measures to tighten the governance of its Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) programme. The bank will enhance credit analysis, conduct one‑on‑one assessments with farmers, adopt ecosystem‑based financing with core corporate off‑takers, limit service radius for better KYC, digitise the credit process, and carry out regular monitoring and audits. Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said these steps aim to ensure that KUR funds reach eligible borrowers and comply with prudential principles.
BNI also clarified that the ongoing investigation into alleged KUR fraud in Jember, East Java, stems from an internal report filed in 2024 after the bank detected irregularities in loan applications and disbursements. The case, being examined by the East Java High Prosecutor, involves fictitious loan applications for more than 900 farmers and a reported loss of roughly Rp 41.48 billion. BNI said it is cooperating fully with authorities, upholds a zero‑tolerance policy for fraud, and will pursue legal action against any violators.
