Bitcoin and S&P 500 face market volatility amid Fed policy shifts

Bitcoin experienced a significant rally in August, gaining approximately 25% and marking its best monthly performance since November 2024. This surge was supported by $3.52 billion in Bitcoin ETF inflows, which helped reduce year-to-date net outflows by 66%. However, the cryptocurrency faced resistance near the $80,000 psychological threshold in early September, with prices trading around $78,000.

Market volatility is being driven by macroeconomic factors, specifically expectations regarding Federal Reserve monetary policy. Hawkish comments from Kevin Warsh regarding potential interest rate hikes have increased pressure on risk assets like Bitcoin and gold, while strengthening the US dollar.

In broader equity markets, Bank of America has adjusted its risk outlook for the S&P 500, moving from a red to a yellow alert as bearish indicators dropped from 70% to 60%. Despite this slight improvement in credit conditions, the bank remains cautious due to high valuations and historical data suggesting limited returns when such indicators are active. Investors are advised to favor large-cap value stocks amidst these shifting market dynamics.
