Borsa Istanbul swings on US‑Iran diplomatic shift, BofA trades heavily
On 17 June the BIST 100 surged 2.82 % to 14,827.35 points, buoyed by expectations of reduced geopolitical risk after the United States and Iran signed a 14‑point agreement. Banking shares led the rally, with the finance‑leasing sector up 6.60 % and the holding index gaining 2.57 %.
Later the same day the index closed 0.5 % lower at 14,421 as Bank of America (BofA) customers recorded net sales of 2.1 billion TL. The biggest sale was Astor Enerji, for which BofA had set a target price of 431 TL.
On 18 June the market rebounded, the BIST 100 rising 2.8 % to 14,827 points. BofA reversed to net purchases of 4.7 billion TL, the largest being Turkish Airlines (875.7 million TL), followed by Akbank and Katılım Evim.
The following session opened down 0.78 % at 14,711 points after reports that the US‑Iran talks had been cancelled, sparking risk‑aversion. The banking index fell 1.32 %, the mining index slipped 1.75 %, and analysts highlighted technical support at 14,600‑14,700 and resistance at 14,900‑15,000.
These moves underscore how diplomatic developments and large foreign‑bank trades can quickly sway Turkey’s equity market.
