Greece implements new economic incentives and relocation programs

Greece is implementing several strategic initiatives to reshape its economy and manage demographic shifts. The government is preparing a relocation program offering up to €10,000 to citizens moving to remote border regions, such as Kastellorizo, to counter depopulation. Additionally, the Ministry of Development is launching a scheme to attract productive foreign direct investment (FDI) in sectors like manufacturing, biotechnology, and AI through tax exemptions and fast-track licensing.

The country’s Golden Visa program remains a key focus. Investors can choose between real estate and financial assets, a flexibility that distinguishes Greece from other European markets. A Bank of Greece study noted that increasing real estate thresholds in high-demand areas like Athens and Santorini has shifted property transaction patterns. Furthermore, the program requires specific healthcare considerations, as residents must navigate the distinction between private insurance and public system eligibility.

In the financial sector, the Greek stock market has seen increased activity from major global passive management firms, including BlackRock and Amundi, following recent market rebalancing.
