Attiki Odos congestion snarls traffic across Athens suburbs
Heavy traffic congestion on the Attiki Odos highway and several major Athenian arteries was reported on the morning of 25 June 2026. The most severe slowdown occurred on the Kifisos corridor, where vehicle speeds fell sharply on the north‑bound flow from Aigaleo to Nea Ionia and the Metamorfosi interchange.
Delays of 10‑20 minutes were also recorded on the airport‑bound lane between Metamorfosi and Kifisos, while the exit to Lamia saw waits of 5‑10 minutes. Additional bottlenecks affected the Kifisos‑Kifisia stretch, the Mesogeion avenue towards central Athens, and the coastal boulevard near the Piraeus port. A separate incident involving a motorcycle‑car collision near the Kyma interchange contributed to localized disruptions, but the overall traffic pattern remained heavily impacted across the network.
Motorists were advised to allow extra travel time and to consider alternative routes as authorities worked to restore normal flow.
