FINA launches free debt counseling centers for citizens

The Financial Agency (FINA) is launching free counseling centers starting November 20 to assist citizens facing debt or the risk of over-indebtedness. These centers will provide financial and legal advice, assistance in creating repayment plans, and technical support for completing necessary forms.

According to FINA Board member Vinka Ilak, the centers are expected to be fully operational by January 1, 2027. This initiative is linked to the new Consumer Credit Act, which aims to strengthen consumer protection and facilitate timely debt resolution. The support system is intended to include psychological assistance for those dealing with the consequences of long-term financial issues.

This follows the CroCIP project, an EU-funded initiative focused on debt counseling and financial literacy that reached over 500 citizens between September 2025 and August 2026. The new centers represent a step toward systematic counseling for all consumers at risk of insolvency, including those already facing enforcement proceedings.
