Banská Bystrica court rules on teen accused in Nitra attack on Indians

A Specialized Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica has ruled on the detention of a 17-year-old male accused of participating in an attack on four Indian nationals in Nitra. The incident occurred on August 1 near the Nitra River, where a group of masked individuals attacked the victims. One of the victims required hospitalization following the assault.

The accused teenager pleaded guilty to the charges and expressed regret for his actions. While prosecutors initially sought detention due to concerns regarding potential recidivism, the judge decided against custody, citing the defendant's age and lack of prior criminal record. Instead, the court imposed specific restrictions and mandated supervision by a probation and mediation officer.

The teenager faces charges including causing bodily harm motivated by hatred based on race or nationality, rioting, and expressing sympathy for a movement aimed at suppressing fundamental rights and freedoms. This legal proceeding follows a police operation named ‘Predsudok,’ which resulted in the detention of four minors and several searches. The other suspects involved in the incident remain at liberty.
