Bappenas and Press Council partner to strengthen Indonesian media ecosystem

The Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and the Press Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the press and mass media ecosystem. This partnership aims to support the planning and implementation of national priority programs within the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Minister of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy emphasized that the collaboration should foster mutual growth while maintaining the independence of the press in its journalistic functions. The initiative aligns with Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2025, which prioritizes the strengthening of a responsible, educational, honest, and objective media industry.

The cooperation focuses on three priority projects: increasing the capacity of press institutions, enhancing the competence and ethics of journalists, and stabilizing mainstream media amidst a changing information landscape dominated by digital platforms and social media.
