Barapullah Phase-III corridor faces severe traffic congestion in Delhi

The newly inaugurated Barapullah Phase-III corridor in Delhi is experiencing severe traffic congestion, causing significant delays for commuters traveling between East and South Delhi. The bottleneck primarily occurs where traffic from eight to nine lanes merges into three lanes on the old Barapullah flyover, specifically around the Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro station and the Sarai Kale Khan area.

In response to daily snarls, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) is meeting with the Delhi Traffic Police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to explore potential restructuring of the flyover to ease movement. Officials noted that the congestion is also being impacted by NHAI's work on merging the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Sarai Kale Khan.

While the 10-kilometre signal-free stretch was intended to reduce travel time and alleviate pressure on the DND and Akshardham routes, commuters have reported bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak hours. Delhi Traffic Police have deployed personnel to manage vehicle movement at merging points, though commuters have noted that digital navigation tools like Google Maps have not always accurately reflected the real-time congestion.
