Delhi Barapullah Phase-III traffic congestion
Overview
Following the inauguration of the Barapullah Phase-III corridor in Delhi, commuters have reported severe traffic congestion. The bottleneck occurs where multiple lanes merge into three lanes on the old Barapullah flyover, specifically near the Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro station and Sarai Kale Khan. This congestion is further exacerbated by ongoing NHAI work on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
In response, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has begun collaborating with the Delhi Traffic Police and the NHAI to explore restructuring the flyover. The PWD Minister has criticized the project’s original planning and design. Proposed solutions include improved lane management, the potential creation of a dedicated U-turn on Ring Road to assist local residents, and the appointment of a traffic and structural design consultant to develop long-term remedies.
