Barbie brand expands through jewelry collaboration and film developments

Mattel is expanding the Barbie brand through both commercial collaborations and film development. In Brazil, the jewelry brand Misha has launched an exclusive collection inspired by the doll's fashion universe, aiming to translate the character's identity into sophisticated accessories.

Regarding film projects, Robbie Brenner, Vice President of Mattel Studios, expressed optimism about a potential sequel to the live-action ‘Barbie’ movie during the Toronto Film Festival, stating, “I am sure that, at some point, the sequel will happen.” While Mattel is currently focused on developing an animated Barbie film with Chris Meledandri, the live-action sequel faces complexities involving Warner Bros. Discovery. Reports indicate negotiations regarding talent contracts for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling remain a factor, and if no agreement is reached by December, Mattel may reclaim the intellectual property from Warner Bros.
