Barcelona and Andorra unveil new public housing conversions for seniors and low‑income residents

The Barcelona city council approved the transformation of the Rec Comtal 19b site in the Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera neighbourhood into public housing. The plan calls for at least 16 officially protected apartments, with the ground floor dedicated to community facilities and non‑profit organisations. The development will occupy up to 1,760 sqm of floor area, of which 1,151 sqm will be used for the residential floors. Councilor Albert Batlle highlighted that the project will add affordable homes and strengthen urban cohesion.

In Andorra la Vella, the municipal government announced that the former Hotel Jaume I will be rebuilt as a senior‑housing complex scheduled for completion at the end of 2027. The Reviude programme will deliver 18 units—nine one‑room apartments and nine studio‑type units ranging from 30 to 50 sqm—plus a fully adapted flat for reduced‑mobility residents. The renovation, costing about €2 million, is expected to begin in October after the contract is awarded in August, with a 30‑year usage concession and a monthly rent of €7,110. The project aims to ease the waiting list for the Casal Calones senior centre and increase affordable rental stock.
