Barcelona cruise terminal reorganization criticized by La CUP

The political formation La CUP has criticized the Barcelona City Council and the Port of Barcelona, claiming that the planned closure of three cruise terminals will not effectively reduce the number of cruise passengers in the city.

Under an agreement announced in July 2025, the port intends to reduce its number of terminals from seven to five by 2030. This involves demolishing public terminals A, B, and C on the Moll Adossat to be replaced by a single public terminal with a simultaneous capacity of 7,000 passengers. While this is expected to reduce the port's maximum simultaneous daily capacity from 37,000 to 31,000 passengers—a 16% reduction—critics argue this does not guarantee a decrease in total annual passenger numbers.

La CUP noted that this reorganization coincides with the expansion of private terminal offerings. MSC Cruises opened terminal H in May 2024, and Royal Caribbean, alongside Cruise Terminals International, is constructing terminal G, which is expected to be operational by spring 2027.
