Barcelona logistics infrastructure expands with new Grimaldi and Hupac facilities
Logistics and transport infrastructure is expanding near Barcelona through new developments by Grimaldi Group and a joint venture between Hupac and TPNOVA.
Grimaldi Group is preparing to inaugurate new facilities at its Barcelona Port terminal, including a five-level vertical vehicle storage center with a 2,000-vehicle capacity. The project also features a 6,000-square-meter photovoltaic plant with a 1,238 kWp capacity and a 1.3 MWh battery storage system to support terminal energy needs. The company has invested approximately 45 million euros in the terminal since 2012.
Additionally, Hupac and TPNOVA have officially opened a new intermodal terminal in La Llagosta, near Barcelona, via their joint venture Combiconnect Barcelona. The terminal has a maximum capacity of 130,000 loading units and features four 700-meter tracks. Designed to facilitate the shift of freight from road to rail, the facility supports both European standard gauge and Iberian wide gauge, allowing for efficient container transfers between different rail systems.
