Barcelona logistics infrastructure expansion
Overview
Logistics and transport infrastructure near Barcelona is expanding through new developments by the Grimaldi Group and a joint venture between Hupac and TPNOVA.
The Grimaldi Group is preparing to launch new facilities at its Barcelona Port terminal, including a five-level vertical vehicle storage center with a 2,000-vehicle capacity. To support its energy needs, the terminal has implemented a photovoltaic plant with a 1,238 kWp capacity and a 1.3 MWh battery storage system. The company has invested approximately €45 million in the terminal since 2012.
Concurrently, the joint venture Combiconnect Barcelona, formed by Hupac and TPNOVA, has opened a new intermodal terminal in La Llagosta. This facility has a maximum capacity of 130,000 loading units and features four 700-meter tracks. The terminal is designed to facilitate the shift of freight from road to rail by supporting both European standard gauge and Iberian wide gauge, enabling efficient container transfers between rail systems.
