A fire broke out in the catenary covering of Barcelona’s Metro Line 1 between Glòries and Clot stations on the afternoon of 27 July 2026. The blaze filled tunnels with dense smoke, forcing the evacuation of Glòries station, the closure of Clot station and the removal of a train from the affected section. Civil Protection activated the Ferrocat emergency plan and the emergency number received 102 calls. Nineteen ambulances were dispatched; emergency services attended between 120 and 137 passengers for smoke inhalation, classifying most injuries as light. Thirty‑nine people were transferred to hospitals, none in critical condition. Line 1 service between Universitat and Sagrera stations was suspended, and Line 2 was also affected. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) provided alternative bus routes, including lines H12, V25 and 192, while repairs and ventilation continued. Service on the disrupted segment was expected to resume on the following Tuesday.
