Barcelona police seek mobile phone tracking in infant abuse case
Police in Barcelona, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have proposed to a judge that the mobile phones of two parents be tracked to determine their locations in early March. The investigation concerns a six-week-old infant who was admitted to Hospital Vall d'Hebron on March 16 with severe injuries.
Investigators aim to establish if either parent was alone with the child during the first days of March, prior to the hospital admission. Currently, the father remains in prison, while the mother was released by the Barcelona Court after being incarcerated for over a month.
During court proceedings, medical staff from Hospital del Mar and Hospital de Sant Pau provided testimony. Healthcare workers testified that they observed no signs of abuse or anomalous behavior when the parents initially brought the child to the center. However, medical professionals dismissed claims that certain injuries, including a hematoma, were caused by medical equipment such as urine bags, noting that such equipment would only cause minor skin redness.
