Barcelona prepares for summer roadworks as Junts primaries select new leader

Jordi Martí, a veteran city councilor, won the primary election of the Junts per Barcelona party ahead of the municipal elections. He emphasized his intention to forge citywide pacts, citing support from former mayor Xavier Trias and pledging cooperation with other candidates.

The Barcelona city council announced an intensive summer works program, scheduling 24 interventions and 18 pavement projects that will affect roughly 100,000 m² of public streets before May 2027. Key works include full road closure on Balmes Street for final resurfacing and tree planting, phased repaving of Avenida Meridiana, a temporary traffic diversion on the Rambla, and night‑time activities on the Ronda de Dalt. The council highlighted aims to expand sidewalks, improve public transport routes, and upgrade infrastructure for climate resilience.
