Barcelona to invest 51.8 million euros in La Escocesa rehabilitation

The Barcelona City Council has announced a definitive project to comprehensively rehabilitate La Escocesa, a former industrial site located in the Poblenou district. The project involves an investment of 51.8 million euros, with 27.2 million euros provided directly by municipal funds.

The transformation aims to convert the 11,528-square-meter facility into a multi-use space integrating housing, economic activity, culture, and social inclusion. The project is scheduled for completion in 2029 and will involve collaboration with various public administrations, social entities, and companies, including Mercabarna and the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Mayor Jaume Collboni described the initiative as a shift away from the traditional industrial economic model toward a more diverse economy that supports emerging sectors and social projects.
