Spain faces widespread storms and heat as August forecasts warn of instability

Meteorological services warn of a mixed pattern across Spain on 5‑6 August 2026. In Catalonia, a strong cold front will trigger extensive thunderstorms, hail and intense rain from the Pyrenees to the interior, with the Inuncat emergency plan activated and authorities urging caution for outdoor activities.

In Andalusia, temperatures are expected to climb to near‑40 °C in the Guadalquivir valley and western interior, prompting a yellow heat alert, while isolated thunderstorms with possible hail may affect the northeastern mountain zones.

Across the rest of the country, a cold air mass will bring heavy rain, strong gusts and occasional hail in the northeast, central valleys and the Balearic Islands, with maximum temperatures still above 35 °C in many inland areas.

The national weather agency also issued a preliminary cloud‑cover outlook for the solar eclipse on 12 August, indicating that Cádiz is likely to enjoy clear skies, improving visibility for the event.
