Barcelona's GRAVITEO Festival Showcases Olympic Skateboarding Evolution
Skateboarding emerged in late‑1950s California as a street‑based activity before growing into a global sport with dedicated skateparks, professional circuits and international competitions. The International Olympic Committee approved its inclusion in 2016, leading to debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games (held in 2021) and continued presence at Paris 2024. The sport is slated to be a major attraction at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
From July 17‑19 the free GRAVITEO festival will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona‑Catalunya, gathering skateboarding alongside other urban disciplines. The event highlights the sport’s history, its Olympic milestones, and its cultural roots as it returns to public spaces in Barcelona.
