Barcelos acquires 36 homes to boost local housing supply

The Municipality of Barcelos has formalized the acquisition of 36 homes in Tamel S. Veríssimo to address local housing shortages. The properties, which include T1, T2, and T3 typologies, were purchased through the ‘1.º Direito – Programa de Apoio ao Acesso à Habitação’.

The operation is part of the Barcelos Local Housing Strategy and is funded by the European Union via NextGenerationEU and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The signing ceremony included the Mayor of Barcelos, Mário Constantino Lopes, and the President of the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), Benjamim Pereira.

Benjamim Pereira noted that Barcelos serves as a national example for housing policy implementation. He also highlighted that approximately 11 billion euros are projected for the housing sector through 2030. The municipality is expected to publish an edict next week to begin the application process for the new housing units.
