Barcelos municipal affordable housing initiative

Overview

The Municipality of Barcelos has initiated steps to address local housing shortages through the acquisition and rental of 36 homes in Tamel S. Veríssimo. The acquisition was formalized under the ‘1.º Direito – Programa de Apoio ao Acesso à Habitação’ and is funded by the European Union via NextGenerationEU and the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Following the acquisition, the Barcelos City Council opened an application period from September 9 to September 22 for the affordable rental units. The housing complex includes T1, T2, and T3 typologies with monthly rents set at 60% of the median rental value for the municipality. Final selection for the units is to be determined by lottery.
