Bari cultural venues prepare for seasonal reopenings

Major cultural venues in Bari are preparing for the reopening of their artistic seasons.

The Teatro Petruzzelli will launch its new season on September 14, 2026, with the contemporary opera ‘Bona Sforza’ by Polish composer Zygmunt Krauze. The production, featuring a libretto by Vincenzo De Vivo, is an international collaboration between Bari and Krakow. The opera explores the life of Queen Bona d’Aragona and will be performed in Polish, Italian, and Latin.

Separately, the Teatro Piccinni is scheduled to reopen on September 23, 2026, following safety repairs. The works were prompted by a fire system malfunction in July caused by high temperatures. To ensure spectator safety, a protective net will be installed in the loggione area, resulting in a temporary reduction of 94 seats. Local officials confirmed the repairs aim to restore the venue's functionality while awaiting more extensive structural work.
