Italy launches widespread health and cancer prevention initiatives
Various health and wellness initiatives are being launched across Italy, focusing on cancer prevention, mental health, and active lifestyles.
In Campania, the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli has partnered with the Mind Your Cancer Foundation, led by Bianca Balti, to improve oncological communication through design and scientific research. This collaboration aims to make medical information more accessible to patients and caregivers.
In Rome, several programs promote health through sport and prevention. The Tennis & Friends project is hosting events at Foro Italico to provide free screenings, while the Lazio Regional Council is organizing sports-focused wellness days.
In Sicily, the ASP of Catania is deploying a mobile prevention camper to offer free mammographies, HPV tests, and colorectal cancer screenings across various municipalities. Similarly, in Calabria, the ASP of Catanzaro is conducting oncological screening drives in Chiaravalle Centrale and Torre di Ruggiero.
Mental health support is also expanding, with the ASP of Catanzaro partnering with the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace to use local parishes as listening hubs to combat psychological distress and stigma. Other regional efforts include walking groups in Tuscany and Lecco to promote physical activity for seniors and general populations.
