Bari officials debate suitability of Bus Rapid Transit
Local officials in Bari are debating the suitability of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) for the city's specific urban layout. Onofrio De Giglio, a counselor for Municipio 2, has cautioned against applying standardized BRT models to all areas, specifically citing Corso Benedetto Croce as an unsuitable location.
De Giglio argues that while BRT is effective on large thoroughfares with multiple lanes and wide setbacks, the narrow streets, parked cars, and overhead wires of Corso Benedetto Croce would make articulated buses impractical. He suggests that dense, historic neighborhoods would be better served by electric minibuses, enhanced existing lines, and the implementation of 30 km/h zones rather than high-capacity transit models.
Separately, the public transport company Amtab announced that its concessions office on Via Trevisani in Bari will be closed to the public on August 17, 2026. The company noted that digital services, email support, and its toll-free number will remain available for inquiries and permits.
