Bari police investigate fraud against elderly woman

Police in Bari have identified two individuals, a 27-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, suspected of aggravated fraud against an 85-year-old woman. The suspects allegedly used a fake law enforcement officer tactic, contacting the victim by phone and falsely claiming her daughter was facing imminent arrest due to a serious traffic accident.

By exploiting the victim's fear and sense of urgency, the perpetrator induced her to hand over gold jewelry and valuables to an accomplice who arrived at her home. The State Police have referred the suspects to the judicial authorities and issued a warning to citizens, particularly the elderly, to remain vigilant against suspicious telephone requests for money or valuables from individuals claiming to be law enforcement.
