Bariloche elections serve as political test for Alberto Weretilneck and La Libertad Avanza

The city of San Carlos de Bariloche will hold elections this Sunday to choose 15 constitutional convention members tasked with reforming the Municipal Organic Charter. While local in scope, the vote is viewed as a significant political barometer for the 2027 national elections.

Rio Negro Governor Alberto Weretilneck is entering the contest through a strategic alliance with local mayor and union leader Walter Cortés. This unified front aims to consolidate provincial leadership and demonstrate negotiating strength with the national government.

The electoral landscape is highly fragmented with 13 lists participating. Key opposition forces include a Peronist alliance led by Andrea Galaverna, as well as a front formed by Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza in coalition with the PRO and various provincial and local parties.
