Bariloche municipal charter reform elections

Overview

The city of Bariloche is preparing to elect 15 convention members and 15 alternates on November 1 to reform its Municipal Organic Charter, with the new text expected to take effect in January 2027.

The electoral landscape is highly fragmented, featuring 13 participating lists. Notable groups include Fuerza Bariloche, led by Andrea Galaverna, and a coalition involving La Libertad Avanza, the PRO, and various local parties. Rio Negro Governor Alberto Weretilneck is also involved through a strategic alliance with local mayor Walter Cortés, a move seen as a political barometer for the 2027 national elections.

Controversy has arisen regarding candidate Adrián Marcelo Grau of the ‘Estamos Haciendo Bariloche’ list. The Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH) filed a complaint after Grau allegedly made social media posts vindicating the military dictatorship and Jorge Rafael Videla. While municipal authorities suggested the account might have been hacked, the APDH argued the statements encouraged criminal acts, leading to requests for Grau’s removal from the ballot.
