Bariloche Smart City Expo Unveils Innovation Plans Led by Mayor Walter Cortés

The Expo Bariloche Smart City, Tecnología y Ambiente opened on Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. Organized by the Cooperativa de Electricidad Bariloche (CEB), the event gathered companies, institutions, professionals and entrepreneurs to discuss challenges and opportunities of technological advancement and smart‑city development. Mayor Walter Cortés welcomed participants, stressing the need for modern management, planning and community‑focused innovation to improve services and quality of life.

During the expo, the cooperative CALF presented its three‑year digital transformation strategy, highlighting diversification into telecoms, fiber‑optic networks, renewable energy and data‑center services for over 120,000 users. CALF announced a 25‑megawatt solar park partnership with the Zapala cooperative, a provincial fiber network serving 8,000 customers, a 6,600‑kilometre connectivity plan for Neuquén, and the construction of a Tier III data centre in collaboration with the municipality of Neuquén. The cooperative emphasized regional cooperation among cooperatives to build shared digital infrastructure and strengthen technological sovereignty in Patagonia.
