Argentina winter tourism 2026 – occupancy & activities

Overview

Winter‑tourism activity in Argentina remains uneven. Neuquén saw a 27 % rise in visitors, while Mar del Plata’s hotel occupancy slipped to about 25 % ahead of the July school break. Santa Fe’s “Vacaciones Copadas” programme continues offering more than 150 free cultural, sport and gastronomic activities across 19 districts, and a similar free‑program rollout is in place nationwide for the July break.

In Buenos Aires Province, Laguna Sauce Grande has become a winter hotspot for pejerrey sport‑fishing, complemented by regattas, kitesurfing and other water‑sports, creating multi‑day itineraries that support local hotels and restaurants. In Patagonia, Tolhuin’s family‑run Ecotono complex reopened its natural ice rink with a 20 cm thick safe surface, now offering skate rentals, lessons, snowshoeing, cross‑country skiing when conditions permit, and a weekend ice‑karting area. The nearby lagoon also hosts snowshoe trails.

At Las Leñas ski resort in Mendoza, Granja Benedetti’s year‑round supermarket opened on‑mountain, supplying fresh meats, cheeses, wines, beverages and pantry items, improving guest convenience without returning to town.

Bariloche’s ski area operates at full capacity, and Villa La Angostura’s new chairlift at Cerro Bayo joins recent upgrades such as expanded artificial snowmaking. The national calendar’s transferred holiday on 17 August creates a three‑day weekend, aimed at stimulating domestic travel. Thermal‑bath complexes in Buenos Aires province, the Villarino district’s rise in overnight stays, and La Rioja’s hotel occupancy reaching 80 % illustrate the continued push toward diverse, sustainable winter destinations.

Additional destinations are being promoted: the Quebrada region near Catamarca’s capital offers guided 10‑km interpretive hikes that combine nature, history and local gastronomy, while Villa Cañás in southern Santa Fe highlights a tranquil lake for fishing, barbecues, cycling and family gatherings, with several historic hotels and rental apartments available.
