Barley and broccoli identified as key foods for cholesterol control and healthy aging
Nutritional research highlights the health benefits of barley and broccoli for long-term wellness. Barley is noted for its ability to help lower LDL cholesterol due to its high content of beta-glucan, a type of soluble fiber. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has confirmed that consuming three grams of beta-glucan from barley daily can contribute to reducing blood cholesterol levels by reducing the reabsorption of bile acids.
Additionally, broccoli is identified by nutritionists as a key vegetable for healthy aging. It contains a combination of vitamins, fiber, and plant compounds such as sulforaphane, vitamin C, and flavonoids. These nutrients support the immune system, protect cells from oxidative stress, and assist in regulating inflammatory processes. The fiber in broccoli also supports gut microbiome health, which is increasingly linked to metabolic and immune functions.
