BARMM to hold first parliamentary elections in September 2026

The first-ever parliamentary elections for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are scheduled for September 14, 2026. This historical election follows several postponements and a transition period where officials were appointed rather than elected.

Approximately 2.4 million voters will elect 80 Members of Parliament. Each voter will shade eight circles on a ballot that includes party logos and candidate photographs. The 80 seats are divided into 40 regional parliamentary political party representatives via a proportional representation system, 32 district representatives, and eight sectoral representatives. The sectoral seats cover settler communities, women, youth, Ulama, and traditional leaders, while two seats for Non-Moro Indigenous Peoples will be determined through tribal assemblies.

The election follows a period of political shifts in the region, including the replacement of Interim Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim with Abdulraof Macacua and changes within the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA).
