Barranquilla authorized to secure $50 million loan for urban and environmental works

The Colombian Ministry of Finance and Public Credit has authorized the District of Barranquilla to secure an external loan of up to $50 million from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF). The funds are designated to finance various environmental, urban, and infrastructure projects under the 2024-2027 District Development Plan, ‘Barranquilla a otro nivel’.

A primary focus of the investment is the integral recovery of the Mallorquín Swamp, targeting its ecosystems, beaches, mangroves, and public spaces. Other key initiatives include the ‘Siembra Barranquilla’ program for urban forests and green zones, the operation of five air quality monitoring stations, and the updating of the Integral Solid Waste Management Plan.

Additionally, the credit will support urban renewal through the ‘Todos al Parque’ program for parks and plazas, the ‘Transformación de Entornos Urbanos’ (TEU) for sidewalk renovation, and various strategies to strengthen local arts, culture, and heritage.
