Barranquilla launches infrastructure improvements at Ernesto Cortissoz Airport
The Barranquilla Mayor's Office has launched an extensive infrastructure and operational improvement plan for the Ernesto Cortissoz Airport. This initiative follows the national government's temporary transfer of landside management to the district administration.
Between October 1 and October 7, more than 20 work fronts were activated. Key technical interventions include repairing air conditioning systems, installing ten new 5-ton cooling units in the national pier, and upgrading restrooms, hallways, and exterior lighting. The plan also addresses baggage handling technology and improves access roads and cargo pier entrances.
To enhance mobility, the Transmetro service will launch a pilot route, A3-31 Airport, on October 13, connecting the terminal directly to the Soledad Portal. Security measures are also being bolstered with the installation of two new metal detector arches. Additionally, a training program in collaboration with SENA will begin on October 10 to certify 150 taxi drivers as tourist guides to improve visitor services.
