Ernesto Cortissoz Airport modernization project

Overview

The Colombian National Government and the District of Barranquilla formalized an agreement to modernize the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. The project involves a 40,000 million peso investment from the District, with funds allocated across 2026 and 2027 to upgrade land-side infrastructure, including passenger service areas, parking, and commercial zones.

Following the temporary transfer of landside management to the district administration, the Barranquilla Mayor’s Office launched an operational improvement plan in early October. Technical interventions include repairing air conditioning systems, upgrading restrooms and lighting, and improving baggage handling and access roads.

Additional measures include the launch of a new Transmetro pilot route to connect the terminal to the Soledad Portal, the installation of new security metal detectors, and a training program to certify taxi drivers as tourist guides.
