Barranquilla launches solar energy project for 1,500 households
In Barranquilla, Colombia, the local administration has launched an energy community project in the Las Gardenias neighborhood. With an investment exceeding 6 billion pesos, the initiative aims to promote a “just” energy transition and reduce electricity costs for approximately 1,500 households.
The project utilizes 1,989 solar panels installed across four locations, including the San Luis District Educational Institution, a community garden, and a community integration center. The system has an installed capacity of approximately 1.3 MWp and is expected to generate an annual average of 2,151 megawatt-hours of clean energy, potentially reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 1,362 tons.
Beneficiaries will be selected through a comprehensive evaluation of family conditions, prioritizing those in extreme poverty and high vulnerability.
