Barranquilla community solar energy project
Overview
The local administration in Barranquilla, Colombia, has launched an energy community project in the Las Gardenias neighborhood. With an investment exceeding 6 billion pesos, the initiative aims to promote a “just” energy transition and reduce electricity costs for approximately 1,500 households.
The project utilizes 1,989 solar panels installed across four locations, including a community garden, a community integration center, and the San Luis District Educational Institution. The system has an installed capacity of approximately 1.3 MWp and is expected to generate an annual average of 2,151 megawatt-hours of clean energy, which could potentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 1,362 tons. Beneficiaries will be selected based on family conditions, with priority given to those in high vulnerability and extreme poverty.
