Barranquilla to invest 40,000 million pesos in Ernesto Cortissoz Airport modernization
The Colombian National Government and the District of Barranquilla have formalized an agreement to modernize the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. This strategic infrastructure project aims to strengthen aerial connectivity in the Colombian Caribbean and position Barranquilla as a global connection hub.
The District of Barranquilla will invest 40,000 million pesos into the project, with 15,000 million allocated for 2026 and 25,000 million for 2027. The funds will primarily target land-side infrastructure, including passenger service areas, access points, parking, commercial zones, and essential terminal systems. The modernization phase is expected to last approximately 18 months.
Under the agreement, the airport remains the property of the Nation, and the Civil Aeronautics authority will maintain control over the runway, air navigation, operational safety, and technical components. The District may temporarily assume certain functions over terminal areas once specific legal and technical conditions are met. The project seeks to address existing deficiencies, such as issues with climate control systems and previously acquired equipment.
