Barretos hosts youth sports games and receives state investment boost

Barretos in São Paulo became the focal point of two major state initiatives in early June. From June 5‑14 the city staged the 41st edition of the Jogos Abertos da Juventude, drawing over 4,000 athletes aged 9‑18 from nearly 150 municipalities to compete in 15 disciplines ranging from athletics to chess. State Sports Secretary Claudia Carletto highlighted the event as a key showcase for youth development and talent identification.

At the same time, the São Paulo government’s 3D caravan visited Barretos, bringing the governor, vice‑governor, secretaries and local officials together. The visit announced R$ 25 million for health – primarily to fund the Santa Casa hospital – and R$ 6 million for water‑treatment and sewage upgrades, underscoring the city’s growing administrative prominence in the region.
