Barry Morphew jailed after alleged Denver hit-and-run

Barry Morphew, a Colorado man accused of first-degree murder in the 2020 death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, has been arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail. The arrest follows an alleged hit-and-run incident in Denver on August 26, where prosecutors claim Morphew drove aggressively and struck two vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Morphew was previously out on a $3 million bond with strict conditions that prohibited him from traveling away from his home in southern Colorado except for work. Prosecutors allege his trip to Denver International Airport to pick up his daughter constituted a breach of these bond terms. A judge had recently ordered him to remain confined to his home following reports of the hit-and-run.

Suzanne Morphew’s remains were discovered in 2023. Prosecutors allege that traces of a wildlife tranquilizer were found in her bone marrow, noting that Morphew was among the few individuals with authorization to use such chemicals. Morphew has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and is scheduled for a bond hearing on September 8.
