Bartók Competition shortlists 16 compositions

The Bartók Competition has announced that 16 compositions have been shortlisted by the preselection jury. The competition received a total of 144 submissions from 136 composers representing 36 different countries.

Gyula Fekete, Chair of the Preselection Jury and Artistic Director of the Composition Round, noted that the high volume of submissions reflects the growing international recognition of the competition and the importance of Hungarian musical culture. The preselection jury, composed of Liszt Academy teaching staff, reviewed anonymized scores and audio recordings.

The International Jury is expected to announce its final decision in October. The panel includes notable figures such as Swedish composer Anders Hillborg, Australian researcher Dr. Natalie Nicolas, American composer Matthew Aucoin, and Chinese composer Xiaogang Ye.
