Bartók World Composition Competition

Overview

The Bartók World Competition received 144 musical compositions from 136 composers representing 36 different countries. Submissions were most frequent from China, South Korea, and the United States. The competition, which features a €10,000 prize pool, is open to composers under the age of 40.

Following a review of anonymized scores and audio recordings by a preselection jury of Liszt Academy professors, 16 compositions have been shortlisted. Gyula Fekete, Chair of the Preselection Jury, stated that the volume of entries reflects the “growing international recognition of the competition and the importance of Hungarian musical culture.”

An international jury, including Anders Hillborg, Natalie Nicolas, Matthew Aucoin, and Xiaogang Ye, is expected to announce the final winners in October. The winners will be officially announced during a gala concert on November 29, 2026.
