Bas-Rhin implements forest fire restrictions due to drought
The Bas-Rhin prefecture has implemented several emergency restrictions for Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15, to prevent forest fires. These measures are a response to intense drought conditions across France and a high-to-severe fire risk level in the department.
Within forests and areas within 200 meters of them, the following are prohibited: fireworks, traditional or event fires, cooking fires (including those in dedicated equipment), and camp or bivouac fires. Additionally, motorized leisure activities (thermal or electric) are restricted between 1:00 PM and 10:00 PM, and hunting is limited to the hours between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
These regulations apply to the entire department but do not include private residences and their outbuildings. Recent fires have already been reported in Pfaffenhoffen, Drulingen, and Mertzwiller.
