Baseball developments in the Dominican Republic

Professional baseball player Esmerlin Valdez Ramírez, an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, recently conducted a baseball clinic in San Juan de la Maguana. Supported by Major League Baseball (MLB), the event aimed to foster local talent and provide technical training to young athletes. The clinic featured a Home Run Derby, which was won by Brandy Ramírez, followed by prospect Leonardo Alcántara.

Separately, Eric Almonte, president of the National Federation of Professional Ballplayers (FENAPEPRO), highlighted the organization's role in defending the labor rights and benefits of players in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). Almonte noted that FENAPEPRO acts as a union for LIDOM players and provides assistance to over 100 former players facing economic or health vulnerabilities through medical insurance and financial aid.
